Woody – Corneliancherry Dogwood (Cornus mas)

This early harbinger of spring is one of the earliest flowering trees, often overlooked if you blink, but quite spectacular in mass bloom. The tiny chartreuse-yellow flowers open well before the leaves and give mass plantings a showy appeal and a sunny promise of warm weather to come. If you are in Columbus, check out the planting just to the west of the Schottenstein Center on the OSU campus.
