Arboricultural mutilation
I was mortified this morning when I spotted this arboricultural massacre in my neighborhood. These silver maples are admittedly weak wooded but this butchery will make the situation far worse.
Topping destroys trees and makes them a long term liability instead of an asset. Yes, these trees will likely flush back out despite the fact they were butchered in a drought. However, decay will set into the amputation points and all those increasingly heavy sprouts will be attached to rotting stubs. Silver maples are particularly susceptible to decay following wounding and poor pruning cuts. An arboricultural disaster.
ANY company which tops trees should be taken off your list of companies you patronize. No professional organization endorses topping and in all but a very few instances the practice is indefensible.
